Maisonettes are purpose-built properties which consist of two separate homes on differing floors, with their own entrance to the property from outside. Maisonettes can be multiple storeys high, housing different families.
Whilst there are entrances to the property from outside, there can still be issues with evacuating the properties. There are many factors that can come into place putting families at risk in maisonette style homes, including blocking off roads, that can prevent fire engines accessing the property.
A fire suppression system gives more time for the fire brigade to attend a property that have been affected by a fire, suppressing the flames and the smoke, helping to protect those who may be stuck inside a property, unable to evacuate.
