  • £30,000-£40,000 per annum + OTE
  • Permanent

About Us

iMist has been successfully trading across the UK for over a decade within the domestic and residential fire suppression sector. We are in dynamic growth mode, so it is exciting and fast-paced. We do everything in-house because we want to maintain our reputation for quality and agility. If you are driven by the opportunity for success and you’re able to work in an organised and methodical manner, we have an opportunity for you within our sales team.

The Opportunity

Our existing Scottish team does an excellent job of looking after the clients we know, but that activity is mainly reactive. We believe there is a significant, currently untapped volume of Scottish business, particularly among developers, housing associations, local authorities and contractors we don’t yet know or know only superficially.

This is a newly created role, built specifically to close the gap. You will work new business origination exclusively in order to build up your own portfolio of clients over the coming months and years.

The Role

As Business Development Manager for Scotland, you will be responsible for proactively identifying and opening new accounts across Scotland, based centrally enough to give you easy reach to the developer, contractor, housing association and local authority organisations that make up your target market. You will generate your own enquiries, attend site and client meetings throughout Scotland, and build the early stage relationships that convert into long term customers.

You will work alongside our experienced Scotland Key Account Manager. You are targeting organisations with no current or historic iMist relationship.

With a strong awareness of Scotland’s mandatory fire suppression building standards, you will confidently advise prospective clients on how iMist supports their regulatory obligations, using compliance as your opening conversation in a competitive market.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead Generation: Proactively identify and approach developers, housing associations, local authorities and contractors across Scotland with no current iMist relationship, with the aim of creating long-term relationships and repeat business. Cold calls and emails will be key to opening successful new accounts.
  • Target Account Development: Build and work a defined target list of organisations we don’t currently know or know only superficially, tracking new business pipeline and quote activity separately from existing inbound work.
  • Telephone Consultations and Site Meetings.
  • Sales Presentations: Give presentations on the ins and outs of iMist to potential clients and show them the benefits of us over traditional solutions.
  • Relationship Building: Establish strong early stage relationships with new clients, providing an excellent experience through to specification and win.
  • Sales Strategy: Work closely with your sales manager, and alongside the existing Scotland Key Account Manager to implement strategies that maximise new business opportunities and drive revenue growth against department targets.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments in the fire suppression sector — including Scotland’s building standards regime to ensure you can offer up to date, relevant advice to prospective clients.

What We’re Looking For

  • Sales Experience: A proven track record in sales, particularly in outbound lead generation and new-business origination. Experience in business development within the construction sector is highly advantageous, with a background approaching contractors, developers, housing associations or local authorities especially welcome.
  • New Business Focus: Genuinely energised by opening conversations with organisations you’ve never dealt with before, rather than managing existing accounts.
  • Communication Skills: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Self-Motivation: The ability to manage your own workload effectively through a high level of self-motivation and drive, working independently across a Scotland-wide territory.
  • Resilience: The ability to handle rejection and persist in the face of challenges. A positive attitude and determination to succeed are essential.
  • Customer Focus: A genuine desire to protect customers and their properties, whilst saving them money and improving their peace of mind, combined with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and other sales tools. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
