iMist’s 10-Year Journey: Innovating Fire Suppression
Celebrating a Decade of Innovation, Safety, and Growth
2025 marks a major milestone for iMist—our 10th birthday. Over the past decade, we’ve worked to make fire suppression faster, simpler, and more water-efficient. As we reflect on the journey so far, we want to share some of the key moments that have shaped iMist into what it is today.
2015 – Where It Began
Our story began in 2015 when our founder, Tony, envisioned changing the future of fire suppression for the better. Creating a system that was faster, simpler, and more water-efficient. Partnering with co-founder Alex, who led operations, they set out to make this vision a reality. With a shared belief in the power of innovation, the first iMist systems were installed, and our journey began.
2016 – First Steps Towards Growth
In 2016, iMist installed its first system in a multiple housing site. This year also saw the addition of our very first full-time employee, marking the beginning of our expanding team.
2017 – Expanding into Student Accommodation
This year saw iMist take on its first major student accommodation project—Caradog House in Cardiff. This £13 million transformation turned a commercial office into a modern student living space. The installation featured six residential pumps and over 600 nozzles, ensuring the safety of the building’s new residents. Our team of engineers expanded nationwide as our reach grew.
2018 – Growth in Scotland & First Live Fire Activation
In 2018, we took our operations to Scotland, opening a brand-new office and further strengthening our sales team. This year was also pivotal as we installed our system in a building of special interest, and our strainer earned UL accreditation. Most importantly, we had our first live fire activation in a care home, where our system saved two lives—proving the true power of fire suppression.
2019 – Taking iMist Global
By 2019, iMist began to spread its wings internationally. We visited America, Canada, and Australia, meeting with fire suppression experts and industry regulators to enhance our understanding of international legislation and testing, gaining valuable insight into international fire safety standards.
2020 – A £4.5 Million Investment
In 2020, iMist secured a £4.5 million investment from the Foresight Group. This allowed us to relocate to a larger premises, complete with an on-site warehouse and training facility. The investment also enabled us to further test our systems and expand our presence further. It was a pivotal moment for the company, setting the stage for our next phase of growth.
2021 – Industry Recognition
2021 was a year of incredible achievement. Following our investment, we moved into our third premises, and iMist became the first water mist company to earn a LABSS certificate, which helped streamline approvals for our systems in domestic and residential projects.
2022 – A Historic Achievement
In 2022, iMist made history once again as the first company to pass the FPA’s UKAS Accredited BS:8458 Watermist System test. This achievement demonstrated that our systems were rigorously tested to the highest standards, offering our customers complete confidence that our fire suppression systems would perform when it mattered most. In the process of doing this, we also helped the FPA gain their UKAS Accreditation.
2023 – A Year of Milestones
2023 was a year of monumental milestones for iMist. We relocated our HQ to a brand-new Kings Hill location and took on the Three Peaks challenge, raising money for charity. We also launched our Installation Components Box, providing customers with everything they need for a seamless installation. On the international front, we continued our journey with testing in Chicago.
Additionally, 2023 saw the completion of our first four social housing tower blocks project. This project included 384 apartments across 15 storeys, requiring our enhanced residential pump and 2,400 nozzles.
2024 – Protecting Even Taller Buildings
In 2024, we introduced our Category 4 equivalent system into the market, allowing us to protect buildings over 18 metres in height. This new system not only saves water but also saves property and, most importantly, lives. We also completed all our depots across the UK, reducing lead times and carbon footprints.
Looking to the Future
As we celebrate a decade of success, we remain committed to our mission of providing faster, simpler, and more water-efficient fire suppression solutions. We are excited for the future and look forward to continuing to innovate and grow.
